It's definitely geared toward kids and if there were no combat it would be perfect for extremely sheltered young'uns -- though maddeningly twee and boring for adults. Without combat it would be mind-numbingly dull. Combat is very simple, you choose your weapon and click on the enemy and it auto-fights for you. It has a very basic skill tree where you are able to choose if you want to put xp points into weapons, or into passive skills or into other benefits. There is no voice acting, but there's reams of reading between conversations you have with other characters and in books you find. If there had been voice acting I would either have been telling the screen to shut-up or skipped all dialogue options about half way through, so no voice is a positive rather than a complaint. There are a number of different puzzles you have to solve to advance, and if you play a lot of puzzle games you would probably find them easy. If you don't, then a couple of them will be frustratingly difficult. Kids will probably need help with several of them. Most of your time in the game is spent looking for plants to pick and objects to pick up, many of the latter are hidden under or behind furniture which you are able to drag out of the way. You can craft simple potions and a few weapons once you find or buy 'blueprints', as well as being able to buy what you need from several vendors. Overall, the game is a really good training RPG.I have one big complaint about the game though, enough of one that I can't recommend it. The game makers want to share their love of God with you. One of the hidden books you find in the middle of the game, if you are a diligent searcher, has the entire Old Testament in it with the disclaimer that you aren't expected to read it if you don't want to but the Devs need to share their belief. After that, the amount of times your character is told to pray because of danger is infuriating. When I buy a game, especially a fantasy game, I am not paying for the Devs to evangelize at me.. A sweet game, very much aware of its genre and the constraints of its developers. Although I always prefer in a game like this for there to be options in regards to gender, the game has a wonderfully open mod system, reminiscent of Dink Smallwood. This means the entire game can be replicated and played through as another gender, for example, or an entirely new game built from the existing assets and code base. Achievements are supposed to work while playing through the mods, but I haven't tested that yet. Multiple difficulty levels are available, and the puzzles in the game are not complex or difficult to execute. The script is often witty, rife with references to nerd culture, and more often than not the player can talk their way out problems. The player is also better rewarded long-term for choosing virtuous paths over less virtuous, which is a refreshing change right now. The latter two are probably informed by the developers' Christian beliefs, which affect the narrative and led them to leave two New Testaments in the game. It's unobtrusive though, and anyone who enjoys Tolkein or Lewis will likewise enjoy this game (I'm not Christian, myself).. An old style RPG that is worth a look. It has good charcterisation and quests, seems family friendly from what I have played.I give a quick overview of the game\/ review here if you are intrested:http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=PajaF50hCng. Interesting indie mixed adventure-role playing game. It's not a gem and you must forget about it if you are just trying to find a hack and slash title focused mainly on combat and action. Driftmoon is not that kind of game. This one is more about dialogues and reading a lot (only in English at the moment). Game is full of humor, a little cheesy but wonderful if you (like me) like also these things. I really cant made any complaint about that. You can even feel good or bad for the characters if you are some kind of sentimental person. I recommend this game. Not for its full price maybe, but its fine with a discount. It gave me like 14-15 hours of fun and some laughs. The game also is moddable by the community, which is a good thing. There are some mods out there already integrated into the game options menu. And you can make your own ones if you know how to do it.. Driftmoon is what you would call a simplistic RPG. It incorporates all the cliche elements such quests, leveling up and combat without the complexity. There are only a few quests available with side quests thrown in. The writing is humorous and will keep you entertained. The music isn't anything special, but doesn't hinder the game. Combat revolves around clicking on an enemy to automatically attack, which is a problem when your surrounded as you can genereally only target one enmey at once (not including area abilities as they do relatively low damage anyway). To its credit, the simplicity allows a much more light hearted experience than other traditional RPGs and can be completed within 3 hours or more depending on whether you choose to do side quests or not.. AMAZING litle RPG game. This is more based on story than combat .It is more like story driven game with a bit of a action. This one is the MOST relaxing RPG game i ever played. It is completely like i said story driven no presure what so ever for combat ,there are hundreds of characters to speak to and every one have there own story to tell ,and all are long if you want to listen to ofc (BEST idea to do so ) It is just,, it's wonderful and relaxingto to read there stories. i really recomend this game specially too ppl who like and play those story driven games you have like easy.medium and hard difficulty ,but befoe you have like adventure it is before easy, that difficulty is based completely on story and to explore more than on combat .This game is really like reading a good good good book filled whit adventures where you can even choose how to like end it on some characters and end some tales long lost tales and quests !for example : You talk to a woman she tells you she lost her ring ,and she tells you the full story of the ring the firs day where she got it ,where is lost it etc ... At the end you can choose to like listen to old lady and help her get that ring back ,OR you can just fined the ring and take it for your self ,and tell you you cant fined it . OR you can like KILL her take everithing ,take the ring and robber her house and take all .It is all up to you.Combat is easy click on enemy and kill it. ,you have many nice itams to chose and to drink ,many nice tipes of weapons to choose from ,you have crafting .which is GREAT to make HP potions etc ... I want to recommendthis game to every one !!!10/10. Great game, kind of a casual rpg, but if you're looking for something that's not so stressful, decent customization, and basic spells/crafting, look no further.. What an awesome game! I fully recommend it 10/10. Man, what a unique little gem of an RPG, just bursting with personality. I really enjoyed this game, though I didn't finish it.PROS- Its filled to the brim with funny quips as you explore the world. Though a bit cheesy or quirky, it still made me smile.-Combat has many intersting abilities to keep things interesting.-World is very well fleshed-out and detailed. Many things to discover and collect - many sidequests.-Characters are fun, quirky and have nice portraits - a nice touch. They are very optimistic and friendly, EVEN SKELETONS!-Story makes you go through many cool places - a nice adventure - and you even get companions sometimes! Don't forget boss fights!CONS-Music is amateurish from the get-go. Its kinda cute and happy, but it still got annoying after a while. Sound effects aren't great either.-Graphics aren't the prettiest, but coming from an indy dev, its to be expected.-Combat doesn't evolve very well. What I mean by that is that though you get many new abilities, there is no incentive to use them - you can just stick to 1-3 skills and wail on enemies along with your companions and phone it in.-Your saves aren't transfered over to the cloud. This was a big issue for me because my computer got a virus and I had to wipe everything. Unfortunatly, I lost all my progress and I never finished it.-No replayability. Its perfectly linear and has no branching paths. There might be other possibilities with the game engine, but I didn't check those out.-Puzzles are frustrating and clunky. Mainly they have to do with moving blocks around or whatever and it was just tedious and not fun.-No co-op. There are often if not always a companion with you so its shame a friend couldn't hop in in local play. All in all, I really recommend this to anyone that's looking for a cute, happy, cheerful, funny little RPG to have a jolly good time.
